Lease restrictions

Recommended Posts

Does a landlord have the right to prevent someone from working on personal cars or motorcycles in the garage of a house they rented? In the excitement of signing a new lease, my wife was told that we cant put an above ground pool in the back yard, can kind of understand that, but she was also told that we cant work on cars or motorcycles. Seeing that I am a home mechanic when we have vehicle problems, this seems like a red flag to me. Can they really tell us that we cant do automotive repairs??? This is in California btw, in case it matters.

The landlord can tell you anything he/she/it likes.  Whether this is enforceable depends on the terms of the lease and, possibly, on other factors that might be relevant (e.g., homeowners' association rules).
