It does not appear anyone here practices or practiced in North Carolina.  Estate law and real estate law varies from state to state.  More importantly the technical aspects of administration of estates can vary greatly from state to state.  For that reason, the only thing we can do is give you generalities and recommend you consult a local attorney who can guide you through the estate administration process.  To be sure, there is abundant expertise here but it may involve procedures in California, Texas, Virginia, or other states.  But it may not pertain to North Carolina.
