TN Small Claims

Recommended Posts

What forms do you need to complete and file to pursue a civil action in a Tennessee small claims court? to collect past rent and damages to property? Also, can another non-attorney person or relative represent the complainant or filer of the action in court?

A party to a civil action (small claims or otherwise) may represent him/herself or may hire an attorney.  Non-attorneys cannot legally represent others in court.  You can google "tennessee small claims forms" or visit the court clerk's office to get whatever forms are available.

Hi @johndoe_5359

If you visit your county court's website, they often have downloadable forms for small claims. Also, here are some helpful links about Tennessee small claims court, and small claims in general:

As pg mentioned, non-attorneys cannot represent you in court (this could be considered an unauthorized practice of law), so in small claims court you can either represent yourself, or confer with a landlord/tenant attorney.

Best of luck!
