Employment Discrimination Question

Recommended Posts

I was hired as a manager at a country club. I am the son of members at the club. The COO/GM that hired me has retired.

The new COO/GM has let me know that he is completely against the hire practice of member (son of members) on the management team.

My question is: If he terminates my employment, would that be a type of discrimination? There is nothing in the policy manual on the subject.

It would not be an ILLEGAL type of discrimination. "Sons of members" are not a protected group under the law; therefore it is quite legal to "discriminate: against them. Even if there's nothing in the policy manual on the subject.

Yes, but it wouldn't be illegal.  Most discrimination is perfectly legal.  It is illegal when it is based on things like race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, religion, etc.

Hi @ClubMgr2016

Welcome to the community and thanks for posting! Looks like you've gotten some helpful input from the community. As others have mentioned, employment discrimination is illegal if it is on the basis of race, gender, age, or disability. If you are terminated, however, you may want to do some reading to determine if you could bring a wrongful termination case:

Best of luck!
