Specific elections laws vary from county to county and state to state. But, most jurisdictions do have very strict laws against the use of public funds (which includes use of public buildings) to campaign for office. To find out what the laws are in your area, check the Elections Code for the jurisdiction this public official is running in. For example, if he or she is an elected county official, check your county Elections Code; if he or she is a city official, check the city Elections Code. Your state might also have some applicable campaign ethics laws that pertain to this situation.
