hello, so i broke my lease two months early. the landlord agreed to return my security deposit once i moved out with no penalty all i had to do was pay my last month there. 2 weeks later he says he will not return my deposit because he consulted a lawyer and he was told he can keep my deposit because i broke my lease. i told him that NYC laws prevents him from keeping my deposit. he then threaten to take me to court for the last 2 months i owe even though he had RENTED the apartment before i moved out so he is not going to lose any rent. my question is can he sue me even though he rented the apartment out after i moved out?
