  1. Like the last person that replied, WOW sounds exactly like my situation. My daughter recently even tried to commit suicide. I live in Florida too. I've had my granddaughter since she was 23 months old. She will be 4 in November. I am the paternal grandfather. My wife left because this was not what she signed up for. It's not an easy job but I wouldn't change it for the anything. Bottom line on permanent guardianship verse adoption is not only is it expensive and time consuming to adopt but you will loose all state benefits like daycare, medical and dental insurance, food assistance and a small monthly income. The state will also pay for college.
