I'm in MN..signing over parental rights

4 posts in this topic

I am in MN and want my son's biological dad to sign over his rights.

My son's dad just got out of prison recently so I have no idea where

he is living now.

So how do I go about getting him to sign his rights over?

I'm very sure he will sign them over since he has not seen his son in 5 yrs.

Not gonna happen, sorry. Your son's father cannot unilaterally "sign over" his parental rights. The days when the law would allow a man to father a child and then abandon it without a means of support are gone. If he doesn't want to be a part of his son's life that's sad but it's his prerogative. However, the courts will not terminate his rights and responsibilities with respect to the child except as part of a valid adoption in which another man steps up to take his place. Consult local counsel.
