The job of a criminal attorney is to build a case in defense of a person who has been indicted for a crime. An indictment is issued for a crime before the arrest takes place. The grand jury that is responsible for the indictment is composed of a group of regular people.

In Texas, most people get arrested before they get indicted. Sometimes grand juries meet in secret and issue "sealed indictments" but usually do not. Most of the time an arrest warrant is issued, based on probable case, the accused person is arrested. Later a grand jury meets to decide if enough evidence exists to hold the person over for trial (indicted).
