Is an employer legally allowed to tell an employee that they cannot take a bathroom break, or that there is a certain block of time during their shift that they will not be allowed to go to the bathroom. I work in the state of Virginia

You already posted this on the employment law board, with slightly different details. Nothing wrong about telling you that you have to wait until X point in break, but if you really have to go and have monitored your liquid-food intake and it's just a gastrointestinal thing from time to time, then it's not as though they can forcibly restrain you from going to the bathroom. If you're fired for having to go, you can talk with the state labor dept. folks and OSHA about any kind of regulations on the books about unlawful retaliation. Might just be a matter of the governmental authority sending them a nasty note to knock it off, or it might be a civil penalty involved. (Which won't help you, of course, but perhaps someone in the future.)
