Question from autumnr0seNov-6
My spouse was forced to voluntarily commit himself for 3 days for psychiatric evaluation for stating that he felt like killing himself.  It's been over 72 hours and no one will tell us when they will release him.  He has not been seen by one doctor for one on one evaluation the entire 3 days in this mental facility.  What are our rights?

Sorry, but "forced to voluntarily commit himself"?  Doesn't sound like a voluntary hold to me.  You don't bother to say where you are, so you can't expect folks to provide meaningful feedback even if they happen to know what the laws are in your state.

If it's a 72-hour hold, the hospital would presumably need to have a court order to hold him involuntarily beyond that.  Your husband should let the hospital know that he is leaving, if they want him to sign any paperwork.  If they refuse to let him leave and they don't have a court order of commitment, presumably you-he should call the cops.
