Hello, We were looking to build a house and went to a construction company to see what designs they had to offer. We sat down and discussed what we would like to see in a house. The idea was that if we went with the company's design and had them do the concrete work the designs would be done at no charge. We did not get any fees or rates and did not sign a contract. The company made a design that was way out of our leauge and we did not use this design. Long story short; we found our own design and had another contractor build for us. We had changes made to this other design we had and signed a contract with them and paid for changes made to the design.
Now we are getting a phone call asking for payment for 3 designs from this first company for over $3000. We have only one design and one was the designers own house plans. We have never received an invoice and my husband told company we would pay $200 for his time that he sat down with us. Now we get invoice called #2 with our $200 deducted and balance from $3000 expected.
Since we did not sign a contract are we legally bound to pay the balance or anything for that matter? Will this have any affect on our new home not built by this company?
Thank you.
