I was given a ticket for going thru a yellow light. My first court date was for pleading and I pled not guilty. I was told to come back to court with proof or whatever but I can't get a lawyer due to price and the state won't provide one for traffic tickets, plus there wasn't any witnesses besides me and the officer. I wasn't speeding and was maybe a foot away from the light when it turned yellow, I did not speed up to beat it. The spped limit on that rode is 35mph. I had the choice of slamming on my brakes and sliding thru or just going and I went. The officer was beside me and back about a foot. He went thru the light also and then slammed on his brakes and pulled behind me. I tried to talk to him but he seemed to have an attitiude and didn't care what i had to say. I need to know the laws on going thru a yellow light is and if there is a website where I can print info from to help my case. I was under the impression that a yellow light meant to stop if you can safely do so and I couldn't. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. The ticket is $150, court costs($30) ,and an extra $45 added on for every month you don't pay the fine off.
