My fiance just found out that he is the father of a four year old boy with an ex girlfriend. What are his rights as a father after we can confirm with a paternity test that he is the father? Do we need to do anything to get a paternity test done? Thanks!

There is no "we" here.  The procedures he needs to follow to establish parental rights depend on the laws of your unidentified state.
