I'm a Human resources worker for a small manufacturing company in Michigan. We recently had an employee refuse to do the job that was asked of them and the supervisor on the shift punched that employee out on their time card and sent them home. Is it illegal for the supervisor to punch out someone else?

Does the time card accurately relect the time the employee worked?

Yes, after the employee refused the assignment the supervisor walked over to the time clock found that employees time card and punched them out. The supervisor then took the time card to the employee and showed them that they had been punched out and then the employee left for the rest of the day.

Nothing illegal about that.

You may contact the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulations Affairs: Wage & Hour Division for clarification.
