sex offender laws

i was conviceted of a sex offense when i was 15 years old in 1998..i was wondering, when did the register for life law go into effect..and i have been convicted of failure to register, can i still go back and get first offenders (i was denied at 15 years old) or can i still get off the registry after ive completed my sentence, givin that i do already of the law doesnt apply to me...???????

The registration law regarding sex offenders was enacted in GA in 1996.  Whether or not it should have been applied to you would be determined by how the statute read when you were released on parole.  No, you can't go back and get the sentence you already served changed.  You were denied first offender, that denial is a done deal.  As to whether you can get relieved from having to register, consult local counsel.
