I have been married for a year and a half. I am a natural born us citizen and my wife has a green card. We applied for a visa to bring my  12 year old stepdaughter here and has just arrived. The bilogical father died 11 years ago. Can I adopt her and forgo the rest of the green card paperwork and cost? She wants my name and I thought I might only have to go through one process instead of two.

You can adopt her but not in the US.  She is the legal citizen of another country and the adoption would have to take place there under that country's laws.
