My husband filed for a personal injury lawsuit before we were married. He received his award after we were married. We have recently bought a home and a car together, with both of our names on the titles. If we were to divorce, would these be considered community property to be divided between us? He was told that because the items were bought out of his award money, and we have never had a joint bank account to prove inter-mingling of funds, that I would not be entitled to anything that was purchased out of these funds (furniture, etc.).

I checked and TN is not a community property state.  In non-community property state, things are split equitably, not necessarily evenly.  Anything that is owned by each person prior to marriage is their own to keep, as well as gifts received during marriage, but anything bought during a marriage will be split in court.
